Who would have thought a midwestern gal from Iowa would catch the island spirit and end up teaching hula on the mainland for nearly 50 years? That's what I found when I interviewed the family and students of the late Ginger "Keahi" Allen, who was an institution in the Southern California beach town of Encinitas.
